After finding the .ma file I had a friend open it up and send over an allembic so I could easily light it and render it in Blender. As currently I don't have Maya.
The spline and polish pass finished in Maya
The Linear pass.
The initial blocking pass on this scene.
This was a shot I had originally worked on during my time in AnimationMentor, one of the ones that I feel still held up. I had been watching a lot of "Master of None" and felt that this scene would always play well as an animation. Luckily, it did!
Only one Problem, I no longer had access to Maya! The original 720P playblast had aliased shadows. an enviroment that wasn't up to my standards, and on top of that the lighting didn't feel good either. So I asked a friend of mine who kindly took the time to export it as an allembic file. Check out his Artstation! https://www.artstation.com/stephenmitchell
I relit the shot, built a new enviroment, and rerendered it all in Blender. After that I took it into after effects and worked on it a bit giving it a Depth of Field, a blurred moving background, and giving the windows a bit more sheen then they had in Blender.
I had a lot of fun reviewing this shot and seeing what I can do better next time! Most notably it would probably be more cleanup work with the fingers and how they rest, and fixing some of the overlapping action. Outside of that I am happy with it.
